Bill Green
Councilman At-Large
Bill Green is a City Councilman At-Large in the City of Philadelphia. Bill is continuing his family’s strong commitment to public service (his father and grandfather were Congressmen and Chairmen of Philadelphia’s Democratic City Committee and his father served as Philadelphia’s Mayor). Bill did not seek public office until later in life, at the age of 42, after achieving success in the private sector.
Before attending Auburn University, where he graduated first in his class, Bill traded options and futures in New York, London, and Amsterdam. He later obtained a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. In the years since, he has founded several businesses, represented top Fortune 500 companies and start-ups as a corporate lawyer, and served as President of VistaScape Security Systems. Bill is now of counsel at the law firm Pepper Hamilton LLP.
In 2007, Bill ran for public office for the first time, becoming the only non-incumbent to win the Democratic Party’s nomination for City Council At-Large in the May primary (19 candidates ran for 5 spots). Similarly, Bill was the only non-incumbent to win in the November general election, receiving more votes (163,000) than any other City Council candidate.
Since being sworn in less than four months ago, Bill has made a name for himself as an innovative reformer. He looks forward to working with his fellow City Council members and the Nutter administration to help Philadelphia realize its great potential, as well as with colleagues from around the Commonwealth to tackle issues of importance for all Pennsylvanians, ranging from infrastructure repairs to school system improvement to court funding.
