Assistant Business Manager of the Electrical Workers IBEW AFL-CIO Local 98
Mike Hnatkowsky was appointed to the ZCC in September 2009 by Councilman Brian O'Neill to help represent the 10th Council District. Mike was born on May 11, 1961 in Northeast Philadelphia. Mike is the middle child born to Mike and Elfriede Hnatkowsky. He attended Cardinal Dougherty High School and Lyon Technical Institute for Electrical, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration, in which he graduated with honors.
Mike began his apprenticeship with IBEW Local Union 98 in 1984 and has held the positions of Steward, Sub-Foreman and General Foreman. During this period Mike took many of the Journeyman upgrading courses plus numerous courses at Penn State University including but not limited to Labor Law and Labor Law II. In 1996, Mike was elected and served two terms on the Examing Board of IBEW Local Union 98. Then, in 2002, he was voted to the Executive Board of IBEW Local Union 98, which he currently sits on today. In 1997, Mike became a fulltime Local 98 Organizer, worked his way up to Business Representative, and eventually became Assistant Business Manager to John J. Dougherty, his mentor and friend. Mike is Chairman of the Northeast Philadelphia Building Trades Committee. He is also involved with the Rhawnhurst and Fox Rock boys clubs.As a result of his position with the union, along with the great membership of Local 98, he has been able to help nearly all of the boys clubs in Northeast Philadelphia, along with many community groups throughout the Philadelphia area.
Mike has been married to his beautiful wife Christine since 1997 and has three wonderful children Michael, Alexis and Kaitlyn.
