Michael Johns, a registered architect and LEED accredited professional, is general manager of Community Development and Design for the Philadelphia Housing Authority where he is responsible for the master planning and design for all of the Authority’s mixed financed development projects along with property acquisitions and dispositions. Johns is a native of Philadelphia and a graduate of the Urban League Leadership Institute and Temple University where he received his undergraduate degree in Architecture. He holds certificates in Housing and Community Development, Construction Project Management, and Building Codes Analysis.
Johns’ experience includes: master planning for low income and market rate housing and mixed use developments; office planning, design and renovation of religious facilities, retail design, recreational facilities along with single and multi-family residential design. Johns has lectured at the University of Pennsylvania, Syracuse University, Temple University and various conferences and organizations. He is a board member of the Delaware Valley Green Building Council (DVGBC) and member of the International Building Code Council (ICC) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA). He is also a founding member and former President of the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects (Phila-NOMA).
